Prepare to be polarized:
You’ll either love me or hate me after this post.

(And I’m cool with either, for the record. Especially if you’re on the “love” side.)

Today is Valentine’s Day. And ya know what? It’s hard to see the love when the world is a big sh*t show right now.

Like, just, so much sh*t all over all the places.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve talked to countless friends, clients, and fellow business owners about how we’re all dealing (aka: binge-drinking) with the new realities of our political climate. Overnight, our world got a whole lot darker, scarier, and more life-threatening than ever before.

If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you know when I woke up on November 9th I was so devasted by the election results that I designed this Hillary Clinton quote poster with tears rolling down my cheeks.

(Feel free to click the image to download the high-resolution poster and print it for your office.)

Since then, I’ve been volunteering my graphic design skillz for non-profits who support women’s rights, and the rights of all refugees, immigrants, sexual orientations, races, and disabilities. I’ve donated money to organizations that are threatened, written letters and made phone calls to state reps and senators, and you better believe I’ve been protesting in the streets of Portland Oregon.

In the rain.

So. Much. Rain.

I’ve also had so many conversations with clients, friends, and fellow entrepreneurs about whether or not their business should respond to Trump, or if they should keep running ads to their program on social media when there’s a new scandal every day getting shared, and shared, and shared. They worry it’s insensitive, or if it will be taken the wrong way by their audience, or if they’ll lose followers, customers, etc…

If you have these same kinds of questions, luckily, PR Goddess Brigitte Lyons wrote a whole amazing post all about this, which I encourage you to read because Brigitte can talk about this about a billion times better than I ever could.

Tara Gentile also wrote a killer post all about how we get to design our businesses to reflect our greatest hopes and dreams for our society, and ultimately, get to create and contribute to the kind of world we want to live in. Amongst some serious stats, her post really aligns with how I view my business, the kind of values I want to embody, and the direction I’d like to see society go in.

So, here’s the deal. We’re in for a rough four years ahead and we’ve gotta stick together, stay vigilant, and keep some love in our hearts. And it’s because of that, I have a Valentine’s Day treat for you!

If you (or someone you know) runs an organization that helps communities targeted by the Trump administration and need some design work done, please, please, PLEASE CONTACT ME. I’d love to help you in any way that I can.

In the meantime, I can be found stress-eating and binge-drinking.

Kidding! Kinda…
